Société Honoraire de Français

Motto :  « L’homme qui sait deux langues en vaut deux. »

1.    What is the Société Honoraire de Français ? 

It is a national organization established to recognize outstanding scholarship and service in French programs at the high school level.

2.    How do you become a member?

Students may become eligible for membership after studying the equivalent of 3 semester of high school French.  2 years of middle school plus French 2 also qualifies a student for membership.

3.    What are the requirements?

a.  Students must have maintained an A- average in French for at least 3 semesters.

b. Students must have maintained a B average in their other classes.

c.  Students must participate in French Club activities and fund raisers to promote the French language and culture on campus.

4.    When can you join?

Anytime during the spring of your freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year.

Once you are a member you maintain your membership as long as you participate in French Club activities, fundraisers, and other events. 

5.    What are the benefits of being a member?

a.     You become eligible for scholarships at Gunn and at the national level.

b.    You receive an engraved certificate when you are initiated into the society.

c.     You earn the right to wear a red, white and blue cord at graduation if you maintain your membership through your senior year.

d.    Membership in any honor society helps build your resume.

6.    When does the initiation take place?

At the awards program held in late May or early June.  You must recite the motto in order to be initiated. 

7.    How will I know if I have been selected for membership? 

After your application has been reviewed you will be notified in writing.
